Airport authorities and customs officials have issued a reminder to expatriates and tourists travelling to the UAE to pay close attention to the items they carry in their luggage. Passengers arriving at Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah airports may face legal action if they are found carrying prohibited items.
Restrictions on Hand Baggage
Several everyday items are not permitted in hand luggage. These include measuring tapes, cricket bats, skateboards, fishing rods, toy guns resembling real firearms, bows and arrows, and darts.Authorities advise travellers to check their airline’s baggage guidelines before departure.
Restrictions on Food Items (Restricted Food Items)
Poppy seeds, which are classified as a controlled substance in the UAE, are strictly prohibited in any form, including as an ingredient in food.
There are also restrictions on carrying pork and pork-derived products such as lard, gelatin, and bacon. Travellers are advised to verify UAE customs regulations before travelling.
Some airlines, including Etihad Airways, have also imposed restrictions on carrying strongly scented fruits such as jackfruit, durian, pedalai, and marang.
Be Careful When Carrying Medicines (Medicines)
Many medicines that are legally available in other countries are classified as controlled medicines in the UAE.
Medicines containing narcotic or psychotropic substances cannot be brought into the country without a valid prescription from a licensed doctor.
Cannabis and products containing CBD (Cannabidiol) oil are completely prohibited in the UAE.
Weapons and Other Prohibited Items (Prohibited Items)
Sharjah and Abu Dhabi airports do not permit knives with blades longer than six centimetres, swords, box cutters, and similar sharp objects. Explosives, fire extinguishers, ammonia solutions, and other hazardous materials are also prohibited.
Bringing narcotic drugs, gambling equipment, ivory, radioactive materials, counterfeit currency, or publications that violate the UAE’s laws and cultural values is considered a serious criminal offence.

Those carrying medicines, food items, or electronic devices should ensure that these items comply with UAE regulations to avoid unnecessary inconvenience and legal issues upon arrival.

ഓഗസ്റ്റ് മാസത്തില് തന്നെ ചിങ്ങമാസ പൂജകള്ക്കായും (ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 16 മുതല് 21 വരെയും) ഓണത്തോട് അനുബന്ധിച്ച പൂജകള്ക്കായും (ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 24 മുതല് 28 വരെയും) ശബരിമല നട തുറക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. ഇത് ദര്ശനത്തിനായി ഭക്തര്ക്ക് തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കാവുന്നതാണെന്നും ബോര്ഡ് പറഞ്ഞു. കനത്ത മഴ തുടരുന്നതിനാലും മണ്ണിടിച്ചില് സാധ്യതയുള്ളതിനാലുമാണ് തിരുവിതാംകൂര് ദേവസ്വം ബോര്ഡ് ഭക്തരോട് ഇത്തരത്തില് ഒരു അഭ്യര്ത്ഥന നടത്തിയത്.
